One of the oldest known toys, it is likely that the yo-yo was created independently in several different areas. Stone yo-yos more than three thousand years old have been found in Greece and evidence indicates that yo-yos may also have been present in ancient Chinese culture. In the 1700s, the yo-yo or jou-jou, as it was called, provided entertainment for the French royal court.

So where did wakeboarding come from? Who were the inventors of this excellent sport? I was actually quite surprised to see so many ops about triple jump compared with the other more popular track and field events. Usually the triple jump is one of the side-lined events in athletics, but it seems that dooyoo-ers do not go along with the trend. This urged me to write a few words myself about the triple jump, mainly as an introduction for those who do not really know what this event is (many 'non-athletics' people might not have heard of this event at all)

In the LJ, the approach is usually 16 to 18 strides long, but it is often shortened by older athletes and may be as long as 22 to 24 strides among younger athletes. It has to be long enough to allow the body to transition from acceleration to the upright running phase and to reach maximum velocity on the last two strides. The length of the runup will change during the season. The length is affected by form, physical condition, runway condition and wind direction. In general, a headwind will require a 10 to 20 inch decrease in runup distance while a tailwind will require it to be lengthened by 7 to 15 inches.

Like many other sports, table tennis began as a mild social diversion. Descending, along with lawn tennis and badminton, from the ancient medieval game of tennis. It was popular in England in the second half of the nineteenth century under its present name and various trade names such as Gossima and Whiff-Whaff. After the name Ping-Pong (an imitation of the sound made by the ball striking the table and the vellum bats that were used) was introduced by J. Jaques & Son, the game became a fashionable craze. There are many contemporary references to it and illustrations of it being played, usually in domestic surroundings.

The history of Poker is thought to have evolved over more than ten centuries from various games, all involving the basic principals of ranked card or domino combinations and the use of ‘bluffing’ to deceive opponents. One popular belief is that a game similar to poker was first invented by the Chinese sometime before 969 A.D, when The Emperor Mu-tsung is reported to have played "domino cards" with his wife on new years eve.

Mahjong, also spelled mah-jong or mah-jongg is a game of Chinese origin. Dating to over two thousand years ago, Mahjong is said to have originated in the court of the King of Wu. This was roughly the time that Confucius existed, which was some five hundred years before the Christian era.5 Within this court, there lived a beauty in seclusion. To keep herself from utter boredom, she invented a game of her own. She began to carve domino-shaped pieces of ivory and bamboo. When she was finished, she invited three of her maids to play her newly invented game.

During the late 1880's an epidemic wave of nationalism gripped Ireland. The foundation of the Gaelic League around this time heralded the dawning of a new departure as Irish men women alike influenced by a spirit of resurgence sought to establish a unique culture of their own, of which they could be proud of and of which couldn't be copied by any other nation.
